The pristine white walls of the waiting room reflected her own tightly-wound state. Her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her jacket, a constant nervous gesture. She kept checking the time, the second hand on the clock mocking her. Liam's name was etched on the list, right above hers.

She imagined him, cool and collected, charming the interviewers. She felt a sharp stab of jealousy, quickly followed by guilt. They'd always supported each other. Why did this job have to divide them?

She closed her eyes, trying to focus on her breathing, but her heart rate continued to climb. The door finally opened, and a wave of nausea washed over her. It was her turn.
